Columbus Day Weekend 2006!

 July 2006!

Overnite visitors this time around included the Ohio Hornes (minus Max, who is in Australia, but plus several impressive new sculptures), John Hayes, the NYC Hornes, and Nancy and Kate Horne. The highlight was once again a party, this time featuring Madras, at the request of Tony Hall, who is trying to force a resurgence of the style on the Lake, and may have succeeded, at least at one small party one Saturday in July.

Joining us for this fabulous event, in addition to the above, were the Doomans, the Wards, the Halls, the Colbys, the Hoffmans, the Suffolks and the Houghtons. The Dooman Family won Best in Show as they had the audacity to create and have Matt and Sam wear madras PONCHOS, while Ady sported a multipurpose Madras wrap that she wore as a sling, a headdress, and kerchief during the course of the party! Amy and Bob won Best Couple, Heather Ward nailed the Subtle award for her madras sneakers, and Charlie, of course, won Best Child. Word has it we made the latest Lake George Mirror—stay tuned for an update.

The Sweetbriar Island Club, sadly, had no NEW members, though three vets, Bill, Kathy, and Adrienne, all made the swim, Bill at the Crack of Dawn. The children –with their guest Erik Svensson—also all paddled out to the island on their boogie boards--we'll have to push harder in August.

The Penn Damn did not disappoint, running briefly, and even speedily, before stopping and again being sent off to Smith’s for repairs. Fingers crossed it will be up and running at Labor Day!

Minigolf, a production of Cats, Pirates of the Caribbean, several runs to Scoop, the ice cream joint, and Nemo’s wanderings (we were scolded by TWO neighbors for the same!) rounded out another great stay at the Lake View--as usual, a good time was had by all.
